"Growth with Dignity"
Neighborhood
News
I am back to continue "Neighborhood News." My life has changed direction
from the days when I was a candidate for Kittitas County Commissioner in
l998. That means that although I am continually alert to what
is going on in our county I am doing it as an interested citizen and as
a community minister. My ministry is with the Kittitas County Coalition
for Human Rights - this year as president- and with the Unitarian
Universalist Congregation of Kittitas Valley.
"Woldale 2000" came out of my
work with the Coalition. I met members of the Hernandez family
through APOYO, an outreach organization to the Hispanic community in our
county. "Woldale 2000" is a project whose goal is to help this
one Hispanic family to improve their English, to learn computer
skills, to work toward General Education Diplomas, and to be qualified
for broader work opportunities.
There are nine adults and two children in the program. I have set
up a small computer learning center in the gymnasium (my former home) where
three families now live. They do both my inside and outside work for their
rent. This relationship has enabled us to communicate on a daily
basis, to learn together, and to establish a warm family-type community.
I will share what we are doing from time to time.
Ministry with the Unitarian Universalists includes delivering one sermon
a month. The congregation is now located at 4th and Anderson in Ellensburg
in the Ecumenical Church. Three of my recent sermons are in Neighborhood
News.
You may contact me easily by writing, phoning, emailing, faxing, or meeting
me for coffee in town - one of my favorite pastimes.
Makenzie, my great granddaughter, is now four years old. She was
only two when the above photo was taken. She is a darling.
Have a great new year!
